What does the EcoVadis assessment cover?

EcoVadis evaluates how effectively a company embeds sustainability into its operations across four key themes: Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. Each theme is assessed through three management pillars, policies, actions and results, which together show not just what commitments exist, but how they are implemented and measured in practice.

How long does the EcoVadis journey take?

Timelines vary depending on company size, data availability and internal coordination. Most organisations prepare and submit their first assessment within 6–10 weeks.

What is a “good” EcoVadis score?

EcoVadis awards medals based on a company’s percentile ranking across all organisations assessed in the past 12 months. A Silver medal typically represents the top 15–25% of companies, while Gold and Platinum are reserved for the highest performers with mature sustainability management systems.

Although rankings are calculated across all industries, the platform also allows you to benchmark your results against peers in your sector, giving valuable insight into where your sustainability performance leads or lags compared with similar businesses.

How do I choose the right scope for assessment?

The scope refers to the legal entity or entities of the company that will be undergoing an EcoVadis assessment. The three possible assessment scopes are:

  • Group
  • Entity
  • Site

All companies engaged in an EcoVadis assessment will only be classified according to the three above scopes.

How much effort does an EcoVadis assessment require?

The time and effort needed vary by organisation, depending on your current sustainability maturity, internal resources and competing priorities. A good first step is to review the EcoVadis questionnaire and familiarise yourself with the questions and required evidence. From there you can decide whether to work with a partner like Seismic to help manage the process and submission, or map gaps internally and collect the necessary evidence yourself.
