We are in the midst of a climate emergency that requires bold action from all businesses to limit the impacts of global warming and to future-proof businesses from increasingly severe climate risks. At Seismic, we are committed to doing our part to help limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. That’s why we are immensely proud to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Seismic’s s near-term science-based emissions reduction target. Seismic has also committed to set long-term emissions reduction targets with the SBTi in line with reaching net-zero by 2050.

Our science-based targets

Near term: 1.5°C by 2030
Long term: 1.5°C by 2050
Net-zero: Committed by 2050

For our near term targets, we commit to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions. For our Long term net-zero targets, we commit to reducing scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2021 base year.

We’re a low-impact business by design, so in our baseline year, our scope 1 and 2 footprints were zero. To achieve our target, we need to ensure we maintain scope 1 and 2 emissions at zero as our business grows.

At Seismic, we believe that business has a critical role to play in addressing the climate crisis. We are proud to be part of a growing community of companies that are taking action to reduce their emissions and help build a more sustainable future. Achieving our net-zero target will require significant changes in the way we do business, but we are committed to taking the necessary steps to reduce our carbon footprint and play our part in addressing the climate crisis. We will continue to share updates on our progress as we work towards our net-zero target.

As sustainability advisors, we are committed to helping other organisations align with climate science by committing to science-based 1.5°C and net-zero targets and have helped a number of clients set targets on their net-zero journey. If you’d like support measuring your impact and reducing emissions or demystifying the net-zero jargon, get in touch with one of our carbon experts – we are here to help.

About the Science Based Targets initiative

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.

The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets. www.sciencebasedtargets.org @sciencetargets
