Katie Smith - Sustainability Communications Consultant

Why I work for Seismic:

In a world which is increasingly unpredictable and fragmented, I’m drawn towards businesses and individuals who are committed to being a consistent force for good – and are playing their part in building a better future for people and our planet. I’m excited to join Seismic’s positive impact agenda, partnering with businesses to communicate their ‘why’, overcoming the sustainability jargon barrier, and expanding our collective sphere of influence.

My experience:

With a strong background in content creation, communications and stakeholder engagement, I’m passionate about the power of storytelling and strategic messaging to inspire, empower and influence others to ‘do good’. Alongside developing employee engagement campaigns, audiovisual content, and multi-stakeholder initiatives, I’ve also managed a global sustainability programme – giving me valuable insights into the real challenges that small- and medium-sized businesses face when it comes to navigating social and environmental issues. Now, my purpose is to leverage communications, training and reporting mechanisms to help businesses showcase impact and put sustainability at the forefront.

Some companies I’ve worked with:

Bristol Global Mobility, Veolia UK&I, Edward Elgar Publishing

A seismic change I’d like to see in the future:

For businesses to prioritise all stakeholders > shareholders. For those who have previously been absent from the decision-making process to have a seat at the table – not only providing them with a megaphone, but with the tools and channels needed to amplify their stories.

Where I like to be:

Feeling ‘small’ in and amongst nature, whether running, hiking, exploring the local area or riding my horse, Shandy. Even better if I’m accompanied by friends and family, and followed with delicious food (i.e. not relying on my culinary skills).
